==> Occasionally, we do have groups cancel or reschedule their tours. If you are not able to find a date on the booking calendar, feel free to email [email protected] and ask to be notified if a date opens up. We’d be glad to help.
Our most popular tour has improved with the addition of our schoolhouse, an authentic replica of the 1850 Eagle Creek school, which was the first successful public school in Oregon. Aimed at 4th graders, elementary and middle schoolers love our field trip, learn from it, and remember it for years! The PLT begins with a brief review of safety rules for students. After that, groups of about ten are sent to their stations to rotate around the farm, learning about pioneer life as they go. The total tour takes two hours, and includes pioneer activities like corn-grinding, crosscut saw, building a log cabin, laundry, tours of an 1860 house, 1870 barn, and of course the 1850 schoolhouse.
The PLT is $10.00 per student and $5.00 per adult. School staff is free. We require at least one adult (either paid or staff) to travel with each group of 10 students. Additional adults are welcome to join the tour ($5) or to volunteer at a station (free). We will train volunteers at the beginning of the tour. We understand that your booked numbers are an estimate of both students and adults. Please contact us if they change significantly before the actual tour. A $90 deposit is required to book your tour, but your final payment is due on the day of your trip, and will be based on the actual headcount attending the tour.
Picnic facilities and a handwashing station are available on site, and our general store sells souvenirs, snacks, and beverages, but we do NOT have drinking fountains. Please let us know if your students are not allowed, allowed, or encouraged to shop in the store after their tour.
Deposit payments ($90) can be made on the website; by mail to JZH Historical Society, PO Box 1040, Estacada, OR 97023 (please note order number on the check); or email [email protected] to arrange a credit card payment.
Note that PayPal would like you to create an account, but does allow payment by credit card as a “guest”, which doesn’t save or share your card information.
Until the Farm can get better (less muddy) walkways, the PLT is only available from mid-March through October.
